How to Read More Books

This week we are working on adding in daily quiet time to our lives in order to give our minds and bodies a chance to rest in order to lower stress levels. One of the things I love to do during quiet time is to read a great book. However, you may only have 10 – 20 minutes at a time to get some reading done, so I have a few tips to help you read more books in this time.

Borrow the Books on Your “To Read” List from the Library

I love our local library! There is such a great collection of fiction and non-fiction books in the physical library, as well as on the online catalog. I like to keep a list of books I want to read and then borrow 1 or 2 at a time from my local library. This way, when I’m ready to read, I have a couple of options of books ready to grab and go – no need to run off to the bookstore or to order one online.

My library now has the option to hold your books online and then pick them up at your convenience once they call you to let you know the books have been pulled from the shelves. This makes things super easy, especially with three little kiddos with me at all times. I love borrowing library books because I get to read all of the books I want without the added cost or clutter. (PS They have magazines too!)

What if my Library Doesn’t Have the Book I Want to Read?

In the few instances that my library doesn’t have my wishlist book (in person or online), I like to order used books at a discount from thriftbooks (use that link to get 15% off your first order as a new member). There are great books, from classic to obscure, for amazing prices! All of the books I’ve ordered from Thriftbooks have been in excellent condition.

What if I Don’t Like to Carry a Book Around With Me?

If you don’t like the extra bulk of having a book with you during quiet time, maybe you’d prefer to read on the Kindle app or a Kindle reader. If you do, check out the Kindle Unlimited Program. You can choose from 6, 12, and 24 month membership plans. With a membership, you get unlimited reading from over 1 million ebooks, unlimited listening to thousands of audiobooks, and you can read on any device that has the Kindle app. You can even try your first month free!

Another option if you prefer to read on a tablet is the Libby app. You need a library account (your card number and a pin number, which you set up at your local library) to access the books, but it’s easy and free, and I’ve found lots of great options of books and audiobooks on it. I find the program easy to use also, which is always a plus.

What books are currently on your list to read? I’m always looking for new ideas!
