This is our first year homeschooling, but I have many years experience as a former high school math teacher. So when it was time for my son to master his multiplication and division facts this year, I tried the usual tactics – write your times tables, practice with flashcards, listen to and sing along with catchy tunes, practice on a mathematics facts app etc. I felt like we tried everything. He was learning the facts, but it was slow progress and he wasn’t enjoying it.
Thankfully, I saw a post about Megageex on Facebook one day. It claimed to have a fun way to learn and practice multiplication facts. I went to the website and looked at the products offered (and the prices). At the time, one multiplication practice book was available as well as a few books on the Megageex characters. The price was very affordable, and since it was available in a PDF, I knew I could print out the sheets over and over again as needed. I went ahead and ordered the first multiplication book.
After printing it all out, I added one sheet a day to my son’s regular math lessons. No more flashcards, songs, or writing the times tables. He loved it! He felt like he was working on art, or puzzles, and he loved the facts about the Megageex’ lives. I loved the positive messages and growth mindset I saw throughout the book. Not long after we finished the first multiplication book, Megageex released volume 2 of multiplication facts. Perfect timing! Now my son was continuing with one sheet a day, but with multiplication facts over 5 too! I saw an improvement in his daily math lessons as he began to learn his multiplication facts. I saw the stress and anxiety lower as he became more confident too. I even noticed that he was beginning to tell me things about the famous scientists, inventors, artists, etc. that he was learning about each day.
Again, right around the time he was finishing up the second volume of the multiplication books, Megageex released the division practice book. My son continues to work on one sheet a day, and he actually looks forward to his Megageex sheets. I love that it’s no longer a fight to practice these much needed math facts each day.
I highly recommend this product as a former math teacher and a current homeschooling mom. I plan to use these books for my daughters too when they’re ready for multiplication and division facts. Addition and Subtraction practice is in the works, so those will be released soon too! My kindergartener can’t wait! She wants to have her own Megageex sheets to work on too.
