You’ve probably seen these everywhere this fall and winter (or maybe you’ve even treated yourself to one); Hot chocolate bombs seem to be all the rage this year. These are an awesome gift idea that you can make at home and flavor naturally with your vitality essential oils! While peppermint is the typical, go-to Christmas season flavor, I challenge you to go outside the box and try a few new ones, such as lavender (yes, really) and Thieves. Have a few oils outside of the starter kit? Orange pairs deliciously with chocolate too! Here’s what you need to make these at home…

Ingredients:

Silicone Chocolate Mold
Chocolate Chips
Hot Chocolate Mix (Here’s my easy recipe from scratch)
Your favorite Vitality Oil(s) (Peppermint, Lavender, Thieves or Orange)
Mini Marshmallows

Directions:

1) First, melt your chocolate chips slowly either in a pan on the stovetop or in the microwave a little at a time. Make sure to stir as you go. Once the chocolate has melted, use a spoon to spread the chocolate into your molds. Let it cool and harden, then remove from the silicone molds.

2) Add 1 – 4 drops of your favorite vitality oil to your hot chocolate mix and blend well. Peppermint vitality oil is great for a traditional Christmas flavor. Try Lavender Vitality oil when you want to mix it up. Thieves Vitality oil boosts your immune system while also providing a nice, spicy cinnamon-y flavor.

3) Fill one mold (one half of the “bomb”) with one serving of hot chocolate mix. Add mini marshmallows. I already had a silicone mold of hearts, so that’s what I used this time.

4) Heat up the edge of the second mold (second half of the “bomb”) by rubbing a hot spoon along the edge or by rubbing the mold edge on a hot plate. Place the two halves together.

5) Run the hot spoon along the seam where the two halves meet to close the gap, or add a little melted chocolate along the seam. Let cool and harden. Place your hot chocolate bomb in a plastic bag and tie with a cute Christmas ribbon. Voila! Ready to gift (or enjoy yourself)!

Want to Take This to the Next Level?

Melt some white chocolate and drizzle it over the top. Sprinkle with crushed peppermint candy or sprinkles. Have fun with decorating your hot chocolate bombs!

Not a decorator? Gift a few hot chocolate bombs with a super cute winter or Christmas themed mug.

Not Really a DIY Person?

Skip the hot chocolate bomb making and gift your flavored hot chocolate mix in a mason jar, with marshmallows added at the top and a ribbon tied around the rim. Pair with a cute mug.

    1. It was much easier than I thought it would be. The silicone molds make all the difference! I can’t wait to hear how it works out for you. I loved that it made the hot chocolate extra chocolate-y.
